EACES AT ELLEESLIE

ATHLETIC TOURNAMENTS PICNICS AND EXCURSIONS A very wide range of holiday attractions is available to Aucklanders during the next ifew days. While picnics and excursions will retain their popularity, a full- programme of sporting events and entertainments has also been provided. Racegoers will be catered for to-day by the opening of the Auckland Racing Club's Autumn Meeting at Ellerslie, and some close contest? are expected. The main event on to-day's programme is the Easter Handicap. The Auckland provincial golf championship, which lias drawn a large entry, will commence at Titirangi today, while Easter tournaments will bo begun by the Maungakiekic Club and at several other links. For cricket enthusiasts a representative match at Eden Park between Auckland and North Auckland will start to-day and n series of ex-servicemen's games will be held at other grounds. The annual Easter tourney of the Auckland Bowling Centre will be continued to-day, and competitions will also b<> hild at the various greens. The Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's annual hard-court championship will also be continued to-day at the Windmill Road courts, while the Auckland Minor Clubs' Hard Court Tennis Association's tournament will be advanced a further stage at the Domain Tho Carlton Croquet Club's Easter tournament will open to-day.

Special holiday programmes have been arranged at the theatres. Racing, golf, cricket, bowling, tennis, croquet and other sports will be continued on Monday, when there will also be sports meetings in tho provincial centres. A wrestling match, between Harry Kent and Earl MeCready will be held in the evening at the Town Hall.
