FIRE-FIGHTING VAN

ENCLOSED TYPE IN USE The Wellington Fire Board hfis departed entirely from the usual practice in fire-fighting equipment, and has now put into commission a complete closedm van, carrying a driver, officer and four firemen, and equipped with quickly accessible lockers for salvage equipment. The equipmont includes water-proof sheets to protect stock from damage, brooms, mops, sawdust, breathing equipment and all gear necessary for dealing with the general cleaning-up after fires, and for saving Avater damage while the flames are being extinguished. The machine is something entirely new so far as New Zealand fire-fighting is concerned, and is designed very much on the lines of similar equipment overseas. As well as being a salvage waggon, the new truck carries a good range of general fire-brigade material and is being used in Wellington as the "second jburn-out" machine.
