WORK IN THE FLOWER GARDEN
Complete the planting of bulbs as soon as possible. Plenty of roots will be made while the ground is still warm. Sow seeds of flowering plants, sweet peas, nemesia, pansy, viola, diantlius, carnation, stock, antirrhinums and Iceland poppies. Remove spent annuals from beds and borders and replace with spring-flowering subjects. Clean up the herbaceous borders, cutting down the plants that have finished their flowering period. Liliums should not be shortened ■ much until they have ripened off. ..... Sow new lawns and give old lawns a dressing of fertiliser. Make a list of trees and shrubs required and mark out the positions for them, in readiness for the planting season. Chrysanthemums should not be fed after the colour shows, or the blooms ivill lack substance. The Greenhouse Dry off the tuberous begonias and gloxinias by giving less 'water. Keep the perpetual carnations well staked and tied up, and take any cuttings available. Space will be valuable in the glasshouse, so dispense with any plants that have finished their period, to make room for the winter sxij)j)ltcs. The water can will need to be used with more discretion now, but do not neglect the ventilation when the tveather is favourable.
