NORTHCOTE WOMEN

MEETING OF LEAGUE Tho monthly meeting of the Northrote Women's Progressive League, held in the parish hnll on Thursday afternoon, was well attended. The president, Mrs. A. Campbell, presided. New members welcomed were Mrs. Hoare, Mrs. H. MacKinnon, and Mrs. R. McGhie, while Miss L. A. Trcmain and Mrs. F. A. Sliarpe were also welcomed after a period of illness. A voto of condolence was passed with the family of Mrs. Neil Campbell, who had been a member since 1919.

It was reported tliat the president, Mrs. A. Campbell, and the patron. Mrs D. P. O'Learv, had conveyed to Mrs. il. Cadness the congratulations and good wishes of all the members of the lenguo on tho occasion of her golden wedding, and presented her with a "golden" bouquet.

A letter is to bo sent to Mr. A. J. Lennon, president of the Northcote Returned Soldiers' Association, who is in hospital, wishing him a speedy recovery. The continuance of the reverent observance of Anzac Day was strongly supported, and it was decided to join with the returned soldiers in recording a protest against the changes that have been suggested in this respect. A large number of members volunteered as collectors for Poppy Day, and are to meet representatives of the Returned Soldiers' Association at "Korangi" 011 April 21, to finalise arrangements. The gift of a cruet set in deeply cut crystal was made to Miss Jean Stewart, who is to bo married shortly, and appreciation was expressed of her services in regard to voluntary., motor-car transport for members. Mrs. J. G. Lockie and Miss Grace Lockie, who are to live at Greymouth, were farewclled. and each presented with a bouquet of (lowers. A talk was given by Mrs. S. L. Boot, vice-president, on the life work of the Rev. John Flvnn, travelling padre, founder of the widely scattered nursing homes and the flying doctor service of the Inland Mission of Australia. Songs were given by Miss Winifred Johnson and recitations by Miss Jojee Smith.
