HARD-COURT TOURNEY AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS OF OPENING DAY The Auckland provincial hard-court tennis championships were commenced yesterday in fine hut gusty weather. In spite of the fact that play was optional over 120 matches were played. Miss M. Hall caused a surprise* by beating Miss B. Griffiths in the first round of the ladies' singles, but there was no other upset, although A. D. Brown conceded a set to Hoyte.
