MORE BUILDING
ONE TREE HILL FIGURES PROGRESS OF BOROUGH "This should gladden one's heart," said the Mayor, Mr. I. J. Goldstine, at a meeting of the One Tree Hill Borough Council last night, when reviewing a, statement on building in the borough for the first three months of 1936. The statement, prepared by the town clerk, Mr. A. Reese, showed that since January 1, a total of 32 permits had been issued, valued at £20,068, compared with 23, valued at £13,815, in the same period of 1935, an increase of £6253. Nineteen permits had been issued since February 14, involving £6IOB. Of that amount £4167 represented the cost of three houses. The Mayor said that each successive recent year had been infinitely better in respect of building. v"The returns," he added, "are yet another sign of the borough's progress and of changing economic conditions."
Approval of a grant of £75 to the council toward loss in rates on properties which had reverted to the Crown had been given by the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, according to a letter from the Treasury.
A suggestion that the Mayors and chairmen of all local authorities should establish funds in aid of the McGregor National Fund was contained in a letter received from the Auckland City Council. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee. ,
