FOUR-BALL BOGEY
TIE AT MIDDLEMORE A four-ball bogey was played at Middlemore and El. Plumley and C. N. .Tacobsen combined well to win after a tie with R. D. Horton and I. C. Horton, each pair finishing 7 up. W. A. Donald and B S. Finn and L. Alderton and H. L. Rees were next, with cards of six up. That the course was in splendid order was evidenced by the fact that the club's professional, E. J. Moss, played a brilliant round of 66 on the following day. Moss slipped a stroke at the fourth but a three at the sixth and a two at the seventh enabled him to reach the turn in 35. He then commenced a remarkable run and was actually seven under fours after he holed a good putt for a three at the 15th. He made a mistake at the next hole when he pushed his drive out behind the trees and a five' resulted. Although his second shot caught a bunker at the 17th he narrowly missed holing a three, a perfect explosion shot finishing on the lip of the hole. The more one sees of Moss' golf the more one is convinced that he has few, if any, equals as a shot-maker in the Dominion. His control of the ball with woods and irons and his exemplary short game provide an object lesson in perfect timing and balance. The scoring in the four-ball at Otahuhu was of a high standard and W. B. Eustace, who was partnered by 11 E. Brown, was responsible for a great round of 69. Brown made full uso of his strokes and the pair handed in the winning card oi: nine up.
