LEAD IN HEALTH WORK

NEW ZEALAND'S PRESTIGE WELLINGTON MILK SUPPLIES New Zealand in general, and Wellington in particular, enjoys great prestige among municipal authorities abroad because of the lead she has given in health work, according to Dr. J. Dale, municipal health officer to the city of Melbourne, .who is visiting Wellington. "I am very interested to visit tbe country that still leads the world in this respect,' 4 he said. Free milk for children and child dental clinics were aspects in which he expressed particular interest. . . ' ~ "I am very anxious to study tne Wellington milk supply, of which I have read glowing accounts," added JJr. Dale. "I have heard that it is the richest, cleanest and safest large-scale milk supply in the world, and I have no doubt these accounts are true. It is remarkable that your other municipalities have not followed Wellington s example. Since such a system must be of great benefit to farmers, I am surprised that in other New Zealand centres they have not persuaded authorities to' organise similar undertakings. It is almost as important to organise a good milk supply as a good water • "I am very interested-in child dental work," he oontinued. "There, too, Wellington has given the world a lead. Recently a similar clinic was started in Melbourne. There we try to deal with the problem in pre-school years. My council gives me the services, of a dentist for pre-school work, and in this respect Melbourne takes the lead in Australia. Thete has for many years been a very good State dental service in Victoria, but it has not been sufficiently comprehensive. Only about 33 per cent of the children receive attention. Care of children's teeth is so important that it is a remarkable slur * on, our civilisation that so many centres do not deal with it."
