CHARGES DISMISSED
ISSUE OF CHEQUES Pleas of not guilty were entered by a voung man, John James Woolcock (Mr. Slipper), in the Police Court yesterday to two charges of obtaining money from Eugene Slialfoon by falsely representing that cheques for £3 and £2 were genuine. Senior-Detective Hall said accused opened a bank account in Jsovember and drew cheques up to December 23, when there was a credit balance of 3s 4d. He then drew the cheques concerned, although he had kept a record of receipts and payments. _ln a statement to the police he said he knew it was doubtful whether there were funds to meet them, and he asked Slialfoon to hold them until he received advice. After lengthy evidence had been heard, the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, said the relationship between the two men was such that Slialfoon had reasonable doubt that he might have to hold the cheques fpr some tune, and the charges were dismissed.
