POSITION AT MOUNT ALBERT CONSISTENT IMPROVEMENT "The figures show a consistent improvement," said the Mayor of Mount Albert, Mr. R. Ferner, ivhen reviewing the borough building returns for a period of 3*oars, at a meeting of the Borough Council last night. The town clerk, Mr. T. 11. Congalton, reported that permits issued during tho year ended March 31, 1936, totalled 278, tho amount involved being £67,458. These figures included 67 permits for houses valued at £35,371. In 1933 there had been a total of 272 permits, but the work represented only £18,363. Sixteen of these permits were for houses costing £BBSO. In March, 1936, a total of 31 permits, including five for houses, had been issued. The total value was £4168, and tho cost of the houses was £3550.
MARKED INCREASE SHOWN TAKAPUNA AND MOUNT ROSKILL Increased activity in the building trade is shown by permits issued by the Takapuna Borough Council during the year ended March 31. Tho year's 'figure, £40,615, compares with last year's total of £19,605. The industry passed through a decided slump in 1932-33, when only £8316 was spent in building. In 1929-30 the total reached £58,910. "I think our figures compare most favourably with those of other bodies," said the chairman of the Mount Roskill Road Board, Mr. C. M. McCullough, when the building returns for the year ended March 31 came before the board last night. Permits issued in the district were of a total value of £76,896, including £43,757 for 74 dwellings. This is over double last year a total.
