ARREST MADE

MURDER IN TRAIN LONG POLICE CHASE SUSPECT IN DISGUISE MASQUERADE AS WOMAN By Telegraph—Press Assori-'ion—Copyright SYDNEY, April 6 A man disguised as a woman was arrested in a coffee house yesterday by the Melbourne police in connection with the murder of Messrs. H. J. Speering and M. F. Costello in the Queensland mail train on Thursday, and later Herbert Kopet, aged 28, labourer, was charged with the murder of Mr. Speering. No charge was laid in reference to the death of Mr. Costello. The police in Sydney later seized a small suitcase which is alleged to have been the property of one of the murdered men. The police forces of Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, using fast cars, aeroplanes and long-distance telephones, had been following the movements of a suspect since the murder. The police organisation was always a few hours behind the suspect as the latter fled south. The police had a report of a man leaving the train in which the murders were committed shortly before it reached Brisbane, then of a man who left some blood-stained money in a taxi. Passengers in various trains and buses were carefully checked until yesterday the Melbourne police made the arrest. It is reported from Brisbane that the condition of the conductor of the train, Mr. Thomas Boys, is still serious. He has not yet regained consciousness.
