ESCAPED BULLOCKS
LASSOED feY COWBOYS EXCITEMENT IN SYDNEY [from due own correspondent] SYDNEY, April 1 A man was tossed 10ft. in the air and one of his legs was broken, when he was attacked by one of three bullocks which escaped at Darling Harbour goods sheds. The beasts were being loaded from a truck to a livestock float for transport to the showground, in preparation for the rodeo at the Royal Easter Show. One beast swam across the harbour and landed at the Pyrmont Wharf, where it attacked a watchman, Mr. Arthur Thornber, aged 65. Another changed along a street, and scattered two milkmen and about a dozen small boys on scooters. The escaped beasts were finally captured by Joe Burrell and Johnny Schnieder, members of an American cowboy team, who wero in charge of them.
After swimming the harbour the bullock scrambled ashore on the shingle near the main gates of the Pyrmont Wharf. Before Mr. Thornber had a chance to open tho gates the bullock charged at him, rolled him over on the ground, then tossed him. The bullock then plunged back into the harbour, and _ was lassoed by Burrell and Schnieder when it attempted a second landing.
In thei meantime Schnieder and Burrell had taken part in a spectacular chase by taxicab after the bullock which was running loose in the street. When near the animal Burrell clambered on to the running-board of the car and lassoed the beast. He had tho rope tied to his belt and was obliged to exert great strength to stop tho bullock. After getting it under control the cowboys hurried to the Pyrmont Wharf to secure tho swimming animal.
