MURDER IN CORK
RETIRED NAVAL OFFICER SHOT WITH A REVOLVER (Received March 25, 5.5 p.m.) CORK, March 25 A sensation was created in Cork to-day by the murder of Vice-Admiral Henry Boyle Somerville. A motor-car containing a number of men drew up at the house of the Admiral. One man entered and shot him dead with a revolver, then dashed out to the car and quickly drove away.
Vice-Admiral Somerville (retired) was born in September, 1863. In 1896 lie married a daughter of Sir G. Wigram Allen, of Sydney. He was in the hydrographic surveying service in Australia and the Western Pacific Ocean 1889-96. He served also in the Eastern Pacific, the Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean, the Northern Atlantic and on the convoy service between America and England in 1917. After his retirement in 1919 he was employed in the hydrographic department of the Admiralty and as chairman of the Admiralty Tidal Committee.
