TEST CRICKET

AUSTRALIAN TEAM GOOD LEAD AT, DURBAN MITCHELL BOWLS WELL By Te' egraph—Press Association—Copyright DURBAN. March 2 The final cricket test match be- , tween Australia and South Africa was resumed to-day in bright weather. At the end olt the third day's play the iiome side, after losing two v wickets for ILO runs in its second innings, was still 123 behind Australia's total. '% South Africa had made 222 in the first innings, and when .stumps were draw:i on Saturday Australia had 239 on the board for the loss of only two wickets. An easterly breeze greeted. Fingleton (117) and O'Brien (23), the not out 5 men, when they continued- the Australian innings. Crisp's third hall bowled Fingleton, a. sharp turn-off which took the middle , stump. Darling, as soon as he got nis eye in, bitted powerfully and rapidly to overtake O'Brien's score. O'Brien was dismissed hy a good catcli behind the wicket. Darling, who los 1; his earlier sureness and was uncomfort- ■- able .'aoing Mitchell, caused no surpriso when he was .given out leg-before. O'Reilly's Vigorous Display The Chipper field-Richardson partnership was only of short duration. Tho former was out to a brilliant catch by Balaskas at leg, just after lunch. Richardson, when he had made 22, was dropped in the slips by Nourse, while Oldfield was most uncomfortable playing Mitchell, who was bowling with the deadliness which characterised bis devasitatir.g spell in the second test, combining fine length 'vnth a sharp leg turnRichardson, when the score wa3 42c1, was clean bowled by Crisp. > Oldfield and Grimmett took the score, to 430, the highest compiled by the Australians in the present series of testa. Oldfield cocked up a ball to mid-oil, > • where Crisp took an easy catch. O'Reilly again lived up to his reputation as a vigorous hitter. He hit a straight six olf Mitchell and had carried his score to 13 when he tipped a ball into Siedle's hands at short-leg. Grimmett lifted Mitchell to the outfield, where Siedle held a well-judged catch. The Australian innings had lasted 419 - minutes for 455 runs. South Africans Bat Again In South Africa's second innings the opening batsmen played steadily and 'safely. Wade's du.missal, when he had made 25, was unexpected, as he was batting confidently. O'Reilly beat him with a well-pitched up leg turn, which took the off stump. Mitchell gave a chance to Darling, who did not get properly on to it. Siedle was out when he failed to get hold of a ball from Grimmett, which he patted, into Brown's hands. When stumps were drawn the South Africans had made 110 for two wickets.
