CRITICISM RESENTED
TEACHERS AND TOWN BOARD CONTROL OF SCHOOL CHILDREN Resentment of criticism by members of the Papatoetoe Town Board regarding the control of children at the Papatoetoe School during games was expressed 011 behalf of the teaching staff in a letter received by the board last night. At the board's previous meeting complaints were made regarding damage on the recreation reserve alleged to have been caused bv schoolchildren. Acknowledging the representations made by the board the headmaster, Mr. P. F. Skinner, stated the value of the recreation reserve to the school was fully appreciated and the staff realised the duty of protecting the ground which devolved upon them. Ho said the "culprits" in a certain incident-had been dealt with within 20 minutes of the "offence." "My teachers resent very much your reference to their 'lack of responsias they consider it a most unjust criticism," wrote the headmaster. He said the amount of supervision by the. teachers could not be increased, but arrangements had been made to ensure that no sports group would use the ground unless a teacher was free to accompany it. The board could be assured of the staff's desire to co-Oper-ate in preserving the reserve. The board decided to receive the letter and consider the matter closed.
