RECENT THEATRE

Musical comedy of first-class entertainment value is coupled with highlyinteresting historical detail in "I Give My Heart" at tho Regent Theatre. Gitta Alpar, Hungarian soprano, finds a wide range for her talent in the musical score of "The Dubarry," of which tho film is an adaptation. Glimpses of the Palace of Versailles, of tho trimly-kept parks of Paris, and of tho historic ascent of Montgolfier's balloon, are screened with striking effect. "PETER IBBETSON " The beautifully-conceived story by George du Maurior, "Peter Ibbetson," forms the subject of ono of the outstanding films of recent months, shortly to be screened at the Regent Theatre. Tho close friendship of a boy and a girl who live in Paris blossoms out, when ho is a distinguished architect and she the wife of the Duke of Towers, into a romance which has been beautifully portrayed on tho screen. When Peter kills the Duke in a quarrel and is imprisoned tho dreams of the lovers keep up communication between them, until death brings infinity to their love. The story obviously calls for unusually fine acting and results have proved the wisdom of the selection of Ann Harding and Gary Cooper for the principal roles. STRAND THEATRE There are few more exciting and perilous exploits than the capturing of i wild animals, and few more absorbing j scenes have been screened than those in Frank Buck's "Fang and Cla;w" at ! tho Strand Theatre. Excellent photo- ' graphy presents in full detail the cap- { turo of a man-eating tiger, of a huge I python and of other animals. Irish | comedy of irresistible appeal is presented in "His Family Tree," featuring James Barton. i STAR CINEMA Arias from "La Traviata*" "Carmen" and "Madame Butterfly," "The Last Rose of Summer" and "One Night of Love" are sung with great artistry by the soprano Gnaco Moore in "One Night of Love" at the Star Cinema. The programme includes "Star of Midnight," featuring Ginger Rogers and William Powell. CAPITOL THEATRE Peter Lorre, renowned for his acting ! in films of horror and mystery, has an ■ important role in "Tlio Man Who ! Knew Too Much," at tho Capitol Theatre. Bebe Daniels and Lyle Talhot make a good leading pair in the second film, "Registered Nurse." VICTORIA THEATRE A fine programme which includes "The Healer" and "Men Without Names" will be presented to-night at tho Victoria Theatre. BRITANNIA THEATRE A story embracing several fetching tunes and set amid pretty settings in Paris, "Paris in Spring," is now being screened at the Britannia Theatre. A supporting feature is "The Church Mouse." LONDON CINEMA The brightest of musical co\iedv en- j tertainruent is provided in "Take a ! Chance" at the London Cinema. James j Dunn and June Knight are the principal players. j TUDOR CINEMA Charles Laughton's distinctive humour ; has made a popular film of "Ruggles ; of Red Gap" at the Tudor Cinema. ! Roland Young, Mary Boland and ; Charles Ruggles are among the players. RIALTO THEATRE Tho guest night programme at the ! Rialto Theatre is headed by "Hold ; That Girl," featuring Claire Trevor and James Dunn, a gav comedy-romance. "Her First Mate also will Ibe shown. CRYSTAL PALACE THEATRE "Look Up and Laugh," one of Gracie Fields' brightest productions, and "The Return of Peter Grimm" head the current programme at the Crystal Palace Theatre.
