GALLANT RESCUE
PEOPLE IN BURNING HOUSE MINISTER'S PROMPT ACTION [from our own correspondent] LONDON. Jan. 25 A Methodist minister, the Rev. C. C. Morris, rescued five persons from a burning house in Tilbury on a recent night. They were:—Mrs. Holroyd, a widow, and her 12-year-old daughter; Mr. William Crake and his 12-year-old son, and Mr. John Howarth, an elderly cripple. Mr. Morris, who is minister at the Methodist Church, Stanford-le-Hope, Grays, had been preaching at the Tilbury Methodist Hall. He was leaving after the service when he and members of the congregation saw Mrs. Holroyd calling for help from the upper window of a neighbouring house. The upper floor was ablaze and smoke was pouring from the »indow. Mr. Morris quickly found two short ladders in a yard and, joining them together, climbed up to the window. The children, Mrs. Holroyd and Mr. Howarth were handed down to helpers below, and Mr. Crake, who was the last to leave, climbed down to safety.
