UMBRELLAS LOST

ABSENT-MINDED LONDONERS [from our own correspondent] LONDON, Jan. 25 Every day last year 271 people left their umbrellas in London trains, trams or buses, and more than 630 other people left behind other articles. These ranged from gloves to picks and spades; from luncheon cases to opulently fitted dressing cases; from expensive purses containing valuables to hard-worn handbags. In all 331,373 articles were received at tho Lost Property Office —11 per cent more than in 1934. Officials can suggest no reason for this increase. By far the larger proportion of tho umbrellas and most of tho cases, bags and articles of clothing were left by women. Of tho 331,373 articles received, 103,665 were restored to their owners.
