SUBSIDISED LABOUR
CASE OF SHEEP FARMERS WITHDRAWAL OF SCHEME 4B [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WELLINGTON, Monday It was announced by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, to-day that in view of the general economic improvement which has been evident, and of the improved wool prices, the Cabinet has decided that the subsidy upon labour which hitherto has been granted under what was known as scheme 48. will not in future be granted to sheep farmers. Applications already received and under consideration will, however, be dealt with on their merits under the present rule, stated the Minister. Scheme 4B provided for a subsidy of 50 per cent of the labour cost of farm developmental work carried out by registered unemployed under contract with farmers.
