HOULDER LINE, LTD.

SOUTH AMERICAN SHIPPING! INTEREST IN SHAW, SAVILL FURNESS, WITHY DEAL The Houlder Lino, Limited, of England, which is interested mainly in the United Kingdom-South America shipping trade, lias again acquired New Zealand and Australian interests through the purchase of part of the Shaw, Savill and Albion capital. The Shaw, Savill Company lias an authorised capital of £BOO,OOO, of which £792,375 is issued in 39,075 A preferred shares and 320,000 B ordinary shares of £5 each, fully paid. The A preferred shares carry a cumulative dividend of 5 per cent, which has been paid regularly. In 1933, Furness, Withy and Company, Limited, and its associated company, British Maritime Trust, acquired an interest of one-third of the Shaw, Savill Company's B ordinary capital. At that time the White Star Lino and its subsidiary, Oceanic Steam Navigation Company, held tho remaining ordinary shares. Jn December last year it was announced that an offer which Furness, Withy, mado on behalf of itself and associated companies to acquire practically tho whole of tho remaining issued ordinary share capital of the Shaw, Savill Company from the official receiver, as liquidator of tho White Star Lino, Limited, and from the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company, j Limited, had been accepted. Tho deal involved about £1,500,000. Speaking at the annual meeting in London last month of tho Houlder Line, Limited, Lord Essendon, chairman of directors, said: "It is common knowledge that Furness, Withy and Company, Limited, have recently acquired (the balance of share capital of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, Limited. As tho Houlder Lino was for so many years closely associated with trade between Groat Britain and Australia and New Zealand, the desire has been expressed that this company should acquire some of these shares, and arrangements are therefore being made for the Houlder Line to take over about 8000 of tho shares in Shaw, Savill, thus restoring an interesting link which was severed some 23 years ngo when this company sold out its interests in tho Australian and Now Zealand trades." Lord Essendon is chairman of Furness, Withy, and also Shaw, Savill. Furness, Withy, holds an interest in the Houlder Lino. RAETIHI EWE FAIR Freeman It. Jackson and Company. Limited, reports that nt its annual Raetihi ewe fair on Thursday its yarding came forward to advertised numbers of 21,000 and flio quality of the sheep was freely commented on by visitors as comparing favourably with any offered this season at other centres, practically every line being in splendid order and condition. There was a large attendance of buyers from Ihe Waikato districts. The absence, due no doubt to ft blockage of the I'arapnra Road, of many of tho usual Wangling, Waverley and Tnranaki buyers, was conspicuous. Altogether, 105 trucks were forwarded from the sale, the bulk were northward. The Railway Department, although somewhat hampered with a shortage of rolling stock, met the position well and by early Friday evenjug the last consignment was on its way. Mr. J, R, Hunter again topped the fouryenr section bis line of 273 making :tOn 2d and 30s, followed by several lines making between 25s and 27s 3d. Mr. R. C, Wallace obtained the best price for five-yenr at 25s 2d, closely followed by Messrs. D. Craig, 2-ls 9d. Bristol and Heinold, 24s Bd, A. Malpas and Ihe Scott estate. 24s fid. Marua Farms, with a line of 858 six-year-olds, topped this section at 21s "d, 21s 2d being obtained for Moriknu Station line, of 71G of tho same age. Keen competition came forward for good lines of four and five-year, Mr. W. Fulton's line of this age realising 2Gs, many other lines making close up to this price. Genorally, the offering in the young ewe section was not up to tho usual standard. Particularly was this noticed in the twotooth pens. Mr. W. Fulton's line of twotooth's made 35s 2d, the Jackson estate getting 35s for its line of over "GOO fourtooths, and several lots of young ewes offered on account of Moriknu Station making between 27s Id and 31b Gd.
