ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

TOUR OF COLONEL SLEEMAN RECEPTION AT DARGAVILLE [by telecraph—OWN correspondent] DARGAVILLE, Monday "The real secret of happiness is in doing something for other people; those who are self-centred and selfish, who avoid responsibilities to other people and who devote themselves to what they think is having a good time, end their lives in regret and unhappiness," said Colonel J. L. Sleeman, Chief Commissioner of the £Jt. Jghn Ambulance Brigade Overseas, during a reception in Dargaville to-day. The function marked the close of the Dominion tour of Colonel Sleeman, who was accompanied by Mr. C. J. Tunks, commissioner for the Auckland district, and Mr. S. E. Langstone, secretary and manager. "No work offers greater value in service given than the Order of St. John," said Colonel Sleeman, in addressing local members of the brigade. "When the time comes for you to look back* you will see the work done has been of immense value. That service to others is what we work for." Colonel Sleeman said the Dargaville branch was one of the best he had seen. In presenting the Mayor, Mr. F. A.
