SCHOOLBOY'S COLLAPSE
DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC EVIDENCE AT INQUEST [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Sunday An inquest touching tho death of Richard Gilmer, a schoolboy, aged 10 years, tho son of Mr. A. J. Gilmer, of Frankton, who died under an anaesthetic in the Waikato Hospital on Friday, was held before Mr. F. W. Platts, S.M., coroner, yesterday. Evidence was given by Dr. M. M. Hockin, medical superintendent of tho Waikato Hospital, that deceased was admitted to the hospital on February 7 suffering from bronchial pneumonia. An operation became necessary, but owing to deceased's weakened condition a minimum of general anaesthetic was administered. When the operation was nearly completed the patient collapsed. Artificial respiration was applied without success. Tho operation was skilfully performed and tho anaesthetic was carefully administered. Dr. A. L. Wilson, who operated, and Dr. D. F. Price, who administered tho anaesthetic, also gave evidence. Tho coroner returned n verdict that death was duo to heart failure while under an anaesthetic for a necessary operation. The coroner added that ail duo skill and proper care were exercised.
