MISS BATTEN IN PARIS
CORDIAL WELCOME RECEIVED ROUND OF ENTERTAINMENTS (Received February 23. 5.5 p.m.) PARIS. Feb. 22 The Auckland girl flier Miss Jean Batten is promised a great reception in Paris this week-end, when she will be the guest of Baronne de Vendeuvre, who has done much to promote the use by the Red Cross of aeroplanes. Miss Batten spent this afternoon in the office of Le Figaro and this evening was the guest of the French Aeronautic Federation, M. Laurent-Evnac presiding. To-morrow morning Miss Batten will he entertained at the Caudron Renault Company's aerodrome. She will have luncheon at the Rolan Garros Club and dine at the Cercle Inter-Allie, where the Marquise de Noailles, who recently returned from an inspection of Red Cross outposts in Africa, will be a fellow-guest of honour. Famous French airmen and airwomen attended a luncheon tendered to Miss Batten to-day. They were astonished to see her so slight and girlish and were delighted with her modest answers to questions relating to her South American flight and with her declaration: "I want to do better. There are other records to beat."
