PAINFUL INJURY

SPEEDWAY RIDER (Received February 23. 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. Feb. 23 A New Zealand speedwity rider, Sidney Perkins, aged 29, had half his nose torn away in a crash at the Show Ground speedway last evening and was admitted to hospital for treatment. Perkins and Douglas McLaehlan were riding in the open scratch race when MeLachlan fell and Perkins, in endeavouring to avoid him, crashed into a fence. Sidney Perkins is of New Zealand birth, but has spent much time overseas. He has ridden for several seasons in Australia and has visited Germany, Norway and Sweden. He competed with a fair measure of success in Auckland in 1931.
