ACCOMPLISHED SINGER

MUSS HINEMOA ROSIEUR FAREWELL CONCERT GIVEN Appearing for the last time before her departure for Australia, Miss Hinemoa Rosieur, New Zealand dramatic soprano, presented a delightful programme of songs before a large audience at the Town Hall concert chamber on Saturday night. The varied nature of her items demonstrated the singer's wide vpice range and her power and delicacy in expression. Each song drew warm applause from the audience, which repeatedly called for encores. Miss Rosieur was first heard in "0 Patria Mia" from Verdi's "Aida," and on recall, sang Puccini's "One Fine Day." With the Auckland baritone, Mr. Robert Simmers, she then presented the duet "Dite ailla giovine," from "La Traviata," by Ver.di. This won an excellent reception, and the encore given was "La ci Darem la Mano," by Mozart. The singer's versatility was evident in a bracket of four solos that followed. These were "Kennst du das Land," by Lizst; "Gretchen am Sprinrade," by Schubert; "Looking Backwards," by Parry; and "Twilight Fancies," by Delius. As a final number Miss Rosieur oilered the aria "Casta Diva," from Bellini's "Norma," giving in support Dvorak's merry "Tune Thy Fiddle, Gypsy," and the ever-popular "Home Sweet Home." Additional items presented by local artists were of high merit. Two instrumental numbers were given by the St. James' Quartette, consisting of Misses Helen Gray, Moya Cooper Smith, Jean Clarkson and Kathleen O'Leary. Mr. Simmers was heard in two solos and Miss Ina Bosworth played four violin pieces and was recalled for a fifth. Mr. and Mrs. J. William Bailey were most entertaining as Lord and Lady Teazle in the "quarrel scene" from Sheridan's "School for Scandal." Four delightful piano solos were presented by Mr. Jack Buckley. Miss Kathleen O'Leary acted as accompanist. The concert was directed by Messrs. Colin Muston and W. Laird Thomson. i
