RELIEF WORKERS PROTEST [by telegraph—own correspondent] "WAIHI, Friday Claiming that they were promised a living wage but that their average earnings over a period of some months had been only Is Id an hour, or 8s 8d a day, 10 of the 12 relief workers engaged on a co-operative contract working at the deviations on the Waihi Beach Road did not go to work to-da,y. Their decision V was made after receiving their monthly pay yesterday, and they state that even with the"'assistance of a motor-truck during the last few weeks they have been unable to earn more than they did when using wheelbarrows to remove the:s P oil.
