DRAINAGE SCHEME
COUNTY COUNCILS VIEWS DISSATISFACTION EXPRESSED Strong dissatisfaction with the metro- . Jpolitan drainage scheme for Auckland {teas .expressed at yesterday's meeting fif the Waitemata County Council, ' jirhen members reiterated their opinion jfchat the scheme would not provide a Satisfactory solution to the drainage problem. "It is like putting the cart before the horse," t said the chairman, Mr. W. 'A. Bishop, referring to the matter of float tests. He said it was difficult to why float tests had not been made before the scheme was recommended, especially in view of the expense of employing experts in a lengthy investigation. The intention to carry ifcut float tests after the recommendation of the scheme appeared to lack logic. Tests made by the County Council indicated definitely that the adop,fion of the scheme would seriously affect Tjhe northern east coast beaches. . A resolution was carried unanimously Reiterating the County Council's "determination to frustrate the attempt to jfoist upon the east coast beaches a echeme which would be just as obnoxious there as the Orakei outfall was to the southern area." The resolution claimed that about '2O years ago expert* declared the Orakcy scheme would be innocuous, and result in the solution of the drainage problem.
