CATTLE RAISING

AUSTRALIA'S LARGE AREAS VAST'HERDS ON THE ROAD [from our own correspondent] SYDNEY. Feb. 14 One of the best-known men in the Australian cattle and sheep industries, Mr. H. Talbot Sanderson, is on a visit to Sydney. One has to talk with him only for a few minutes to visualise something of tho real Australia far outback. The extent of Mr. Sanderson'* station properties in Queensland and his sheep interests in New South Wales afford a striking illustration of the part that those industries play in the economic life and development of Australia. An inspection of the cattle properties in which he is interested occupies him for at least four months of tho year. Arrangements are now being made with drovers to move 20,000 store cattle from tho breeding stations which come within Mr. Sanderson's scope, and which are situated on the Gulf of Carpentaria. This vast herd will be moved down to the fattening areaq at Hughenden. Townsville and Rockhampton, in Queensland, in mobs of from 1000 to 1250. This year Mr. Sanderson will have on the road more than 30,000 cattle, taking both fat and store cattle, while 500 bullocks are now on the way to tho market in Brisbane from ono of tlio properties in which Mr. Sanderson is interested —Wandovale, near Hughenden.
