METEOROLOGICAL

CLOUDY TO OVERCAST A GRADUAL IMPROVEMENT The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows.—Pressure is high over the Tasman Sea and southern Now Zealand, but a depression still extends across the North Island, with its centre over the Cook Strait area. The indications are for south-westerly winds in the North Island and southerly or south-easterly in the South Island, strong on parts of the east coast, but decreasing, otherwise moderate. Seas rough south of Castlepoint and in parts of the Cook Strait area, with a southeasterly swell, moderate to rather rough north of Farewell Spit, but elsewhere moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea, moderate southerly winds, with smooth to moderate seas. The weather is likely to be cloudy to overcast, with rain in many places.
