SOUTHERN DISTRICT NEEDS CONFERENCE SUGGESTED A suggestion that the Ic/cal bodies and business interests . of Otahuhu, Papatoetoe and Mangere arrange a conference to further the claims of the combined district for improved telephone services was adopted at the Papatoetoe Chamber of Commerce meeting on "Wednesday. Mr. W. A. Cairns said there was a desire in Papatoetoe for an automatio telephone service with the city. The ordinary bureau service was not fully meeting the needs of the subscribers and the district generally. He had raised the matter at the Papatoetoe Town Board meeting, which had suggested the chamber consider making representations to the department. A letter from Mr. C. R. Mr. Petrie suggested that the interested bodies in the district might arrange a conference to further the project. - The chamber decided to request the Borough Council to arrange a conference to be attended by representatives of the Otahuhu Borough Council, the Papatoetoe Town Board, the Manukau County Council and fewsiness organisations in the three districts.
