PLUNKET SHIELD
OTAGO AND CANTERBURY PLAY INTERRUPTED BY RAIN [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Monday Owing to almost continuous rain play was possible for only one hour to-day in the Plunket Shield cricket match between Canterbury and Otago. The start was delayed for 80 minutes and there was 42 minutes' play before lunch.
Before tho resumption after lunch a steady drizzle set in. The captains inspected the pitch when it eased off, but they disagreed, and the umpires ordered that play be resumed. Six overs were bowled and, even with a liberal sprinkling of sawdust at both ends of. tho. wicket, bowlers and batsmen had the greatest difficulty in keeping their feet. Another halt was called, mid eventually stumps were drawn at 5 p.m. Indications are for more rain, and the possibility of a full day's play to-morrow seems remote.
