PENSION FOR WAR HORSE
"Old Bill," sole survivor of the chargers of the Queen's Bays (2nd Dragoon Guards), which went overseas in 1014,,, is not to be sold when the regiment is mechanised. •The regiment is arranging for him to be "pensioned" into peaceful retire.ment after his 27 years" service. "Old Bill" still does his full share of work, but his 'coat is now more grey than bay. His medal ribbons proclaim his service in the field. "Old Bill's" venerable and sedate appearnncp has deceived many recruits. He never. adds injury to insult, however, by kicking a recruit he has thrown. He is even credited with choosinr the softest spots for dropping those who worry him.
