FRENCH MINISTRY
"VOTE OP CONFIDENCE APPRECIATION OF FRANC EXPANSIONIST POLICY LIKELY By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received February 2. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. Feb. 1 A message from Paris says that after a noisy debate in the Chamber of Deputies a motion of confidence in the Sarraut Ministry was carried by 361 votes to J65. M. Sarraut's victory, with the largest majority a French Government has received for a considerable. time, was reflected in a sharp appreciation of the franc and a flood of buying on the Paris Bourse.
It is believed on the Bourse that M. Sarraut will develop an expansionist policy. It is also considered that an early arrangement will be made for sterling credit, possibly £66,000,000, to prevent further gold losses. The Bank of France's report disclosed that the attacks on the franc in 1935 cost the bank £213,000,000 in gold.
