GISBORNE IMPROVEMENTS GOVERNMENT AID ASSURED |"BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT} GISBORNE, Friday A report was made to the Gisborne Borough Council by the Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., last night that, as the result of a visit to Wellington, he had received an assurance from the Minister of Employment, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, that the Government waa favourable to pushing ahead with improvements to the Grisborne aerodrome. , The council also hud before it a reply from the Waikohu County Council to a. request for a contribution toward the cost of the work. The Waikohu Council advised that it would agree to contribute one-seventh of the cost, provided that the liability did not exceed oue-serenth of £6OOO, and that contributions were payable in 10 half-yearly instalments. iSg*. Mr. Coleman s;aid that while it was satisfactory to know that the Waikohu County Council was willing to contribute, the method of payment was not satisfactory. It was decided to ask the Waikohu County Council to participate in a joint loan. The Mayor authorised to approach the Minister m regard to the necessary legislation for loan powers.
