RACING DESCRIBED

i HURDLERS OUTCLASSED OUTSIDER WINS VICTORY CONTEST FOR THE CUP [by telegraph—own correspondent] WANGANUI, Friday Gold Cure outclassed his opponents in tbo hurdle race. Earl Colossus was the only runner to give him any trouble and he looked dangerous when he was . on terms at the last fence, but he made a bad jump and Gold Cure ran homo a comfortable winner. The favourite Ruaform was only a fair third and never looked like doing any better, but Widden, who finished fourth, will do all right when he learns to jump proficiently. Kaola pltigged on into fifth place. Royal Shift fell at the first fence. The maiden favourite Supreme Court was responsible for a really good effort to wiii. He was a long way back early, having only two behind him, Hornpipe and Aotopeen, and he was well away from the leaders. Joviality and Alloa, who were followed by Golden ' Ann, Count Willonyx, and Battle Pomp. Supreme Court began to improve his , position on the turn and was handy as they came into the straight, where Joviality, Alloa and Count Willonyx , were bunching. Alloa ran out wide and then' closed in again, squeezing Count Willonyx, but Supreme Court continued his run and won decisively. Count Willonyx beat Alloa narrowly and Battle Pomp was almost in lino for third. The class was poor, otherwise Supreme Court would never have won from his | early position. Joviality showed pace and should improve. Alloa, who fell back over his rider after rearing in the birdcage before the race, showed promise. Warm Favourite Beaten Martinborough, a warm favourite for the two-year-old race, was decisively beaten by Imposturo after having every chance. He began well and led with Dawning Light, and then Imposture, who had dwelt a little from the rail ■ position, ran up behind them. This trio gradually drew away, from the rest. Dawriing Light weakened entering the straight, where Imposturo moved out after Martinborough, and, in sp'ite of hanging out, it was not long before Imposture had the leader's measure. International was a poor third, just beating Master Limond. Imposturo won well and should improve on this showing. Dawning Light failed to stay the distance. The Victory, Hack Handicap, for apprentice riders,, fell to the' outsider of the six runners, La Crown, but her price was not sensational. Royal King mado the pace from the others, well bunched with ;tho exception of the favourite, Seamond, who went off very slowly, and with .the race half over was six to eight lengths away. La Crown moved up on the last bit of the back stretch and led into line from Ingenuity and Royal King, while Seamond had begun a strong run. La Crown held on to win very narrowly from Ingenuity, with Seamond a handy third: Then came Royal King and Pawky. The winner improved with recent racing, and so did Ingenuity, who was travelling stronger at the finish. Sea- , mond was also running on. Pawky will do better for a stronger horseman. Dungarvan's Good Performance sR. Reed always had the Tayforth Hack favourite Dungarvan well placed in the running, and at the finish he won decismdy, although all out. Royal | Record settled down in front and Dunj garvan moved up into second place. | The field was bunched into the straight, ; but Dungarvan finished best. Lord Moutoa just headed AVhotuma on the post and almost in line" wore Blue Garter and Royal Record. The winner, who is only just out of the maiden class, is a useful galloper, and runs on well. Grand Jury, always well placed, won the Wanganui Cup very narrowly from an outsider in Eminent. Full Throttle, Rust and Gay Boy led early from Grand Jury, Aga Khan, Eminent and Speed, with Gay Broney tailing the bunch, and Passion Fruit further back lust. There was no material alteration in the order for six furlongs, except that Aga Khan and Windsoreen moved up and on the home turn Gay Broney began a run, while Passion Fruit was still last. ' • Leaders Commence to Weaken Full. Throttle and Rust began to weaken entering the straight,, whore Grand Jury, Gay Brouev, Speed and Eminent were all bunching. Grand Jury came away at the last furlong, but Eminent, finishing on the rails, flashed up and threatened serious danger. Grand Jury, however, just hung ou long enough. Passion Fruit came home very strongly over the last two furlifngs for a fair third, and a big bunch was in line, including Speed, Rust, Gay Broney and. Davistock. Grand Jury rag consistent with his recent form and was suited by the fast pace set. Eminent retains his ability in a remarkable fashion. Passion Fruit's finish was ono of the features of the race. Speed also ran well, but Rust and Full Throttle failed to see out a fastrun race. Acceptable looked in a class by himself at the finish of the Flying Handicap, his win being impressive. Ho ran to the front early nnd led Lavina, Sir Nigel, Courtega, Movie Star and Porotiti. Sir Nigel ran up to Acceptable on the turn and they led into the straight from Lavina, Courtega and Movie Star. Once in lino Acceptable drew out and won comfortably from Lavina. Acceptable's Improvement The winner is a locally improved galloper. Sir Nigel ran well for a fresh horse. Bazaine won the last race decisively, after he and Solaria had delayed the start, the latter finally being slow away. Debut led to the turn from Bazaine and Eara, with iVlidacre running up last and Passion Flower next. Bazaine had run to the front before they reached the straight, and came on to win well from Eara, with Solaria closing up fast into third place. Passion Flower, Midacre, Debut and Happy Hunting were next. The winner is a very useful type for this class of event. Eara ran well and Solaria, after having a lot of ground to make up, was galloping strongly at the end.
