DIAMOND WEDDING
MR. AND MRS. T. A. CRAWFORD The diamond wedding of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Crawford, well-known residents of Gisborne, was celebrated this week. Mr. Crawford was born in New York, and Mrs. Crawford in London. The former left America for Australia, and sailed for Auckland from Sydney in the brig Rita in November, 1860, taking 14 days to cross the Tasman. Mrs. Crawford as a child came to New Zealand with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Noone, in the sailing ship Avon, reaching Auckland in December. 1861, after 120 days at sea, Mr. and Mrs. Crawford were married on January 29, 1876, in St. James' Presbyterian Church, Auckland, by the Rev. R. F. Macnicol. Mr. Crawford remembers landing at Auckland in the waterman's boat which brought the brig's passengers alongside the wharf. He took up the study of chemistry and was in business in Auckland until 1905, when, with his wife and family, he moved to Gisborne. Both enjoy the best of health and Mr. Crawford still carries on a chemist's business.
