KING'S BIRTHDAY
HOLIDAY ON JUNE 23 EFFECTS OF THE CHANGE The King's Birthday holiday will now fall on June 23, whereas June 3 was the day of King C4eorge's birthday. One of the principal effects in Auckland will be that the Auckland Racing Club's winter carnival will commence on June 3, an ordinary week-day, while tho second day of the Auckland Trotting Club's winter meeting, formerly scheduled for tho Prince of Wales' Birthday, will now be on a public holiday. Other sports will not be greatly influenced, as fixtures originally planned for June 3 can easily be postponed for 20 days. The usual! King's Birthday attractions include representative Rugby and Association football matches, while a carnival is held by the Auckland Hockey Association and various golf clubs hold important contests. A suggestion has been made in the South that both June 3 and June 23 should be observed as public holidays this year to commemorate the service of King George to his people. Those favouring such a proposal contend that June 3 could be made a day of commemoration, and in such an event it would be unlikely that sporting fixtures would be held v
