CHILD DISAPPEARS
MISSING FROM ITS BED MYSTERY AT OTAKIRI POLICE INVESTIGATIONS [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] WHAKATANE. Friday Strange circumstances surround the disappearance of the 14-months-old daughter of Mr. and Airs. Colin Henry Cameron, of Otorohauga. Mrs. Cameron is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. "S. Cruse, who reside on Mr. W. Orr's property, where Mr. Cruse is share-milking. Mrs. Cameron returned to her parents with her child about a fortnight ago. With her mother she w#nt to Otorohanga, leaving the child in the care of the grandfather at Otakiri. On Wednesday morning Mr. Cruse went to the milking shed at about 4 o'clock, leaving the child asleep in bed. At 6 o'clock Airs. Orr, jira., went to the room with the intention of dressing the child, but it had disappeared. Its clothes had not been taken, and the nightdress the child slept in was also on the bed. It is stated that a motor-ear was noticed on the road in the vicinity earlier in the morning, at about 4.30 a.m. The car was turned into the gate. It went away shortly afterward, but its appearance did not arouse suspicion. Mr. and Mrs. H. Orr, jun., were in the house at the time, but did not observe any unusual happening. The police have been investigating the matter, but have been unable to discover the whereabouts of the child.
