AUSTRALIAN TEAM EAST LONDON MATCH TWO GOOD CENTURIES By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright EAST LONDON. Jan. U At the end of the second day's play in the cricket match between a Border eleven and Australia, the South African side, with only three wickets in hand, required 75 runs to save an innings defeat. Border made 209 on Saturday and Australia had 96 runs on the board without loss (McCabe 56, Fingleton 31). McCabe to-day batted with his usual dashing brilliance, his accurate drives reducing the good-length opening attack to impotence. He became reckless after reaching his century. Richardson (captain) continues to show poor form. He had two "lives" before he was dismissed. Chipperfield collected runs off almost every ball, and reached his century in 126 "minutes, hitting 10 boundaries;. Darling and Sievers both gave blight' displays. Fleetwood-Smith had an injured hand and did not bat or field. The Border batsmen, in the second innings, attempted to hit O ReilLy s deliveries, but they could not overcome his leg-trap. Sievers bowled with great heart, and when stumps were drawn the local side was facing an innings defeat.
