TITLED VISITORS
VISCOUNT BRIDPORT'S TOUR FAMILY'S NAVAL TRADITION With the intention of spending a month's holiday in New Zealand, Viscount and Viscountess Bridport arrived at Auckland by the Mariposa on Saturday. They are a young couple who were married in 1934 and who have since been spending some time in travelling. On their way to New Zealand they made a tour of the East and also visited Australia and after their stay in the Dominion they propose to visit Honolulu. Viscount Bridport is a member of a family which has long been prominently associated with the Royal Navy, being a descendant of Rear-Admiral Alexander Hood and related to the family of Lord Nelson. His father, as a naval lieutenant, was killed at Gallipoli in 1915, and Viscount Bridport succeeded his grandfather in 1924. He was in the navy himself for a time, but resigned in 1933. He is aged 24. Both Viscount and Viscountess Bridport said they had heard many enthusiastic accounts of the scenic attractions of New Zealand and were looking forward eagerly to their stay in the country.
