SAFETY WEEK
Sir, —Were it not that tho daily papers toll us that it was the "Mayor's Safety Week" —wherein tho motorists, traffic officers and tho humble pedestrian were to be shown in various ways "how to behave," one would not know that such a ."stunt" was in progress. There is admittedly a lot that could have been done—particularly for the pedestrian, during this busy shopping season —but although it commenced with a flourish of trumpets one would not notice any change from tho accepted order of things. A keen motorist myself I still recognise that our traffic control has failed lamentably in considering the pedestrians' needs —i.e., to cross intersections without fear of motor traffic being signalled to "come on" as if there were 110 such persons as tho walking public. I have looked in vain for a visible sign that safety week was in progress and consider the Mayor's effort was without visible benefit to tho walking public. " Still Hoping.
