BRAVERY REWARDED
FIJIAN GRANTED MEDAL RESCUE FROM SAVAGE FISH [from our own correspondent] SUVA. Dec. 18 Advice has been received from England that the Royal Humane Society has awarded its silver medal to Jone Drawnimasi, a 40-year-old Fijian, for attempting to save his nephew, Williame Uati, aged 19, from tho attack of a barracuda, which, in Fijian waters, is a very savage fish. While bathing at Moloncowava Reef, in the Bua district, Williame was attack'by the fish, which bit off one of his arms. Jone swam to his assistance and then swam ashore with him, in the face of repeated attacks by the fish. Williame eventually died. Tho barracuda, or onga, as it is called in Fiji, is a very savage fish and is feared bv the natives more than the shark. Even when captured arid landed in a boat care must always be taken that the onga does not inflict a severe wound. Largo onga may measure from eight to ten feet in length.
