PIGEONS GO ASTRAY

A carrier pigeon, smoky grey in colour with a purple breast, landed at Sweetwater, a gumdigging settlement near Kaitaia, in an exhausted condition on Thursday. The bird was cared for and was later brought into Kaitaia.

This is the sixth bird that has come down in this district during the past few months and all have shown signs of having flown for long distancea.
