GOLDEN WEDDING

MR. AND MRS. H. DEARSLY About 150 friends assembled in the North Memorial Baptist Church, Remuera, on Saturday evening, to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Dearsly on tho attainment of their golden wedding. They were married by the Rev. Charles Dallaston at Christchurch on November 7, 1885, but have spent most of their married life in Auckland. Tho church had been attractively decorated for the social gathering and a wedding-bell hung over the platform. The Rev. P. L. A. Crampton presided. Speeches were mado by representatives of the various churches and organisations with which Mr. Dearsly has been most intimately identified. Mr. A. G. Jones referred to the many ways in which he had aided the Ponsonby and Epsom Churches. Mr. J. Neaton Barker, president of the Auckland Auxiliary of the Baptist Union, expressed warm appreciation of all he had done to help the auxiliary in its various enterprises, while the Rev. L. B. Busfield told of Mr. Dearsly's keen interest in Sunday school and youth work. The Rev. Dr. J. J. North, principal of the Baptist College, referred to the fact that Mr. Dearsly had given 150 trees to adorn the hill above the college and had thus added to the beauty of Remuera. The Rev. A. J. Grigg spoke of the deep debt the North Memorial Church owed to Mr. Dearsly for hia foresight, generosity and unswerving fidelity. On the arrival of the guests of honour Miss Joy Brown presented Mrs. Dearsly with a bridal bouquet and Mr. Dearsly with a buttonhole. During the evening Mr. Driver read some verses composed for the occasion. Musical items were rendered by Mrs. Crampton and Mrs. Grigg, Mr. Clinton Williams, Mrs. A. Brown and Miss Hassall. A wedding cake was cut by Mrs. Dearsly. On behalf' of numerous frjends the chairman presented Mr. and Mrs. Dearsly with a strawberry bowl and s«t of § lasses of cut crystal, and a statuette, upper was served by the ladies of the church.
