ARMISTICE DAY
OBSERVANCE ON MONDAY BUGLERS IN QUEEN STREET Armistice Day falls on Monday and will be observed with the customary reverence. An innovation in this year's observance will be the sounding of the "Last Post," prior to the two minutes' silence in the morning, by buglers posted at intervals in Queen Street, Karangahape Iload and Upper Symonds Street.
it is felt by tlio Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association that the gun which is fired from the Naval Base at 11 o'clock is not always heard above the noise of the traffic in Queen Street and that the bugle notes are more likely to serve as a reminder to people in business houses.
The usual service will bo held at the Cenotaph and wreaths will be placed at the base of the monument by the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, on behalf of the cjtizens and by representatives of ex-servicemen's and patriotic associations. The lings on the Cenotaph will be replaced by new banners, the old flags being handed over to various schools in the city and suburbs. As the gun is fired from Devonport at. 11 a.m. a bugler at the Cenotaph will sound the "Last Post." After the sinking of two hymns, the "Reveille" will be played. During the two minutes' silence, all tramcars will stop, while traffic officers will hold up motor traffic in the city. All trains will stop at 11 o'clock for two minutes, which will also be ob* served bv all members of the staff of the Railways Department. The crew of the Rangitiki will assemble on the after deck during the two minutes' silence.
