SECRET SOCIETY
• SOUTH AFRICA MENACE TO PEACE PRIME MINISTER'S CHARGE DENUNCIATION OF AIMS By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received November 8, 6.15 p.m.) Times Cable LONDON, Nov. 7 The Bloemfontein correspondent of the Times states that the Prime Minister, General Hertzog, speaking in his constituency, denounced the Afrikander Broederbond (League of Brothers), of which Dr. Malan and his lieutenants are members, as a secret society which aimed at an independent Republic and the severing of South Africa's constitutional ties. General Hertzog declared that the Broederbond gravely menaced peace, also the purity of public life and administration. Moreover, the machinations of the organisation affected the life of the community, as it was connected with other secret institutions which were exploiting political and racial aims. The Prime Minister disclosed the fact that the Broederbond had organised local divisions which closely examined applications for membership. There was a danger that non-members in the Civil Service would be the victims of intrigue, while teacher members were endangering the interests of children.
