MERLE OBERON'S SUCCESS
RETURN TO ENGLAND Merle Oberon recently returned to England after ten months in Hollywood. She will remain in England about a month. After that she will go back to Hollywood for " The Children's Hour," for Sam Goldwyn. Later she will return to England to make a film in colour for Alexander Korda. The subject has not been decided yet. Merle hopes she can persuade Korda to film a story of Anne Boleyn which she has written herself. She says her part in " The Private Life of Henry VIII." was the only one which has not worried her. Her story of Anne Boleyn starts with the fall of the axe. "And I have such a tiny neck," said Anne, in " Henry VTII." But before the terrible climax, in Merle's story, the film will flash back to the preceding events in Anne's life. Sam Goldwyn has said that he was " grooming " Merle Oberon to be just an ordinary, open-air girl in " The Dark Angel," instead of the glamorous, Orientalised beauty of her other films. Merle sayß Goldwyn had little " grooming " to do. He put her on the screen as sho really is. She wore almost no make-up in the film, and was allowed to he herself.
