ADOPT-A-BABY WEEK
The smart little jumper suit of green string lace on the left, with big ball buttons and white accessories, strikes a sporting note, but would do for any informal occasion, while the welltailored suit in the centre has a Jubilee scarf and buttons of red, white and blue. On the right is a useful three-piece, with a white jumper set off by scarlet buttons.
NOVEL TORONTO SCHEME The 68 children's aid shelters in Ontario have been reported to be practically cleared of children suitable for adoption as the result of a recent adopt-a-baby week sponsored by tho Government to mark the first anniversary of tho birth of the Dionne quintuplets, says a Canadian correspondent. Many of the babies have already been taken to their new homes, while others are waiting for arrangements to be completed. With more than 100 applicants for babies, the Toronto Children's Aid Society reported that it would have no difficulty in placing the 50 children of adoptive ago under their care. Many of these children are being legally adopted by the foster-parents who have been caring for them, it being the belief of the welfare department that foster homes are greatly superior to institutions for children under their care. Before adoption is complete there is a probation period of two years, and within this time tho parents are able to decide whether they want to keep the child permanently, and the society satisfies itself that the child is happy in the home.
