STEAMED 1,000,000 MILES On tho arrival at Southampton recently from the Channel Islands of the Southern Railway Company's steamer the Isle of Jersey, Captain F. W. Holt, tho master of the ship, and commodore of the company's Southampton fleet, ended, by his retirement, a remarkable record. During 44 years at sea he has steamed over 1,000,000 miles; travelled five times round tho world under sail in his apprentice days; made over 100 crossings of tho Atlantic, and crossed tho English Channel nearly 8000 times. During tho war he ran almost every night between Southampton and Havre.
