MR. M. J. KEARNEY « ' ; r .... - • The death haa occurred jn Auckland of Mr. M. J. Kearney, who was in his 95th year. Born in County Armagh, Ireland, he subsequently lived in Scotland, England and the United States before coming to New Zealand with his wife and family in the vessel Waikato • e »8 years ago. He was employed in Auckland by the 'firm of Tonson, Garlicky and Company, as head of the re*reiving and despatch department, retiring after nearly years' service. Mr. and Mrs. Kearney spent several years in travelling, returning to Auckland for the diamond jubilee of their wedding., Mrs. Kearney died about a year after this, at the age of HO. There was a family of 12 children.. Mr. Kearney was for some years a lieutenant, in the Victoria Rifles, and bo was also a master of the Grand Lodge of Scotlandj 708, Ponsonby. Mr. Kearney took considerable interest in church work, latterly that of the Baptist Tabernacle.

I MB, H. N. MADDOX The death occurred at Te Awamutu on Wednesday, after a short illness, of Mr. Henry Norman Maddox, who was born at Oxford, England, in 1873. He left there when ho was 21 years old, accompanied; by his brother, for San Francisco, and from California he came to New Zealand, joining the staff of the Waihi Goldmining Company. Subsequently he began business as a merchant in Auckland, and he had since been interested in a number of business activities. He married the fourth daughter of the late Mr. G. W. Owen, of Auckland. Mr. Maddox was a prominent member of the Auckland Chess Club, being twice champion of the organisation, as well as an Auckland delegate to the Dominion chess congress. He was at one time, an outstanding tennis player. He is survived by Mrs. Maddox, two sons, Mr. N. C. Maddox, of Matamata, and Mr. N. 0. Maddox, of Waimuaku, and a daughter, Mrs. J. ,W. Cox, of Remuera. . THE REV, WILLIAM DAY ,[nr TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Friday The death has occurred of the Rev. William Day, a retired Presbyterian minister, aged 76, 'He was originally a Congregationalist minister at Auckland. When he entered the Presbyterian Church his first cbargo was at Whangarei. Later he served in many parts of New Zealand. MR. H. T. MARSHALL [nY TELEGRAPH —PRESS »ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Friday The death has occurred, following an operation, of Mr. Henry Taylor Marshall, M.C., a prominent New Zealand rifle shot' and a former captain in the Rifle Brigade, He was aged <3O years. Ho was born at Nelson in 1875 and was educated at the Te A'ro School and Wellington College. He won the Wellington rifle shooting championship twice and represented New Zealand m 1910. He was chairman of tl>e New Zealand Rifle Association for some years and chairman of the New Zealand Rifle Club's executive from 1911 to 1916. He also served on the executive of the Dominion Rifle Association. During the war he served with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade and was awarded the Military Cross.
